Thanks.
I have no idea what this will be like. The program is only 1 year. How many classes will have each term? I know teaching styles are different than here.
It depends on the degree course. I did my masters at Bristol university and I only had 3 core classes in the first semester and one optional class in the second semester. However, the degree was purely research-based, so I didn't have to take any exams for the classes and it was up to me whether I attended the optional ones (the classes weren't graded and didn't count towards my final grade - the entire degree was awarded based on my thesis and oral viva). I spent the majority of my time from January to September sitting in an office, doing research on my computer.
Which archaeology degree will you be doing at Manchester? For the General Archaeology MA course, students take 2 compulsory research classes plus 3 optional classes during the year, as well as writing a 12,000-15,000 word dissertation. It seems that the classes are assessed through 6,000-word essays instead of exams, but I can't seem to find on the university website any info about when the classes will be taken (it could be 3 in the first term, 2 in the second term, maybe?).
