I say "pew-zho".  Which, I always assumed was wrong just because I'm not French and can't speak a lick of French.  I didn't realize people were throwing in R's over here!

ETA: I think now I may have to take a secret survey of my friends and see how they say it!  You know, "Ohhh, what kind of car is that?" ;)

LOL! Does he really pronounce an R in Peugeot?? I pronounce it purr-zho, but not with an R in purr. I'm British originally, so "purr" (like a cat's sound) doesn't have a strong R at the end. Does that make sense?
yeah he does the purrr - it gave us a giggle as he never thought about it not having an "r"
He said then again it is French...

It was just funny to me as I am with you (IM) Patiently Waiting - I alays said it to myself and did it phonetically.

My DH also pronounces it like 'purr-zho'.  It took me ages to figure out what kind of car he was talking about (actually I finally figured it out when he mentioned it while an advert was on and I saw the name of the car).  I always pronounced it (luckily, only to myself) the way it is phonetically spelled.

Not like I'm trying to win the pronunciation battle here, but: http://www.forvo.com/word/peugeot/  :)

Lol - I say something like poo-zho!  :P

DH creased himself laughing the first time he heard me say it.  It's because that's how someone that I used to hang out with said it like that, back when I was in my late teens or early 20s - and I hadn't really ever heard of the car/brand anyway, so I said it that way too & it just stuck.  :D

I had no idea how 'ugh' could be pronounced 'ure' but now that I hear the voice samples, I see what sound they mean.  I've heard people say that before but never thought of it as being 'ugh'!  Maybe 'eugh' or 'eww' or something, but I can't really think of any ways to spell it that convey how it sounds..

I say 'ugh' (as 'ugg') out loud sometimes..  It never occurred to me I might be pronouncing it wrong, ha!

Me too, and with a hard G.  ;D

Honestly I don't think there is a right or wrong way for a sound-word like that.  And even if there is, who cares?  :P

who cares?  :P

Of course it's not really important and nobody really cares, but it's still fun to discuss! Life would be pretty dull if we only talked about serious things!  ;D

It seems that some people didn't read my initial post where I thought I had made it pretty clear (1) that I was being lighthearted (2) that I was intrigued by a change in usage since I was young, rather than thinking that one way of saying (or writing) 'ugh' was "right".
