New Passport fees
« on: July 01, 2010, 07:31:30 PM »
I recently came across a list of the new passport fees that the State department is implementing on July 13th.  Some of the hikes are pretty steep--from $75 to $110 for a passport renewal, for example.  But the most outrageous, for me, is the new fee of $82 for a service that was previously free--adding passport pages to a full passport book.  That's $7 more than a whole new passport renewal currently costs!  Oh, and the new $450 fee to give up your American citizenship entirely!  Does anyone else think that this is a little much?  And if you've been putting off any of these services--like getting more pages--getting it done before July 13th would seem like a good idea!

Here's the link to the complete list of fees:

Glad that I got extra pages added at US embassy in Laos when I noticed it was around the corner from the hotel, despite my partner thinking it was a waste of 10 minutes.

I wonder how they justify such a huge increase in fees.
