I was looking into the University of Bath. Has anyone went there or know anyone that has. Is it a good university to go to? How was the city? Just some of the basics about the school.

According to The Guardian university league table for 2010, Bath University is ranked 9th out of 117 universities in the UK, although according to The Times university league table for 2011, it's ranked 13th out of 113 universities.

I haven't attended the university, but my brother applied to study there and was considering going there last year (he chose a different university in the end because that course was more suited to him).

What subject area are you thinking of studying in?

Bath is well-known for its Sports degrees and was ranked number 1 in the UK for Sports Science last year (The Guardian) and number 2 this year (The Times). Last year, it was also ranked in the top 10 for the following degree subjects (Guardian League Table): Architecture (3rd), Social Policy and Administration (4th), Modern Languages (5th), Pharmacy and Pharmacology (6th), Mechanical Engineering (7th), Sociology (7th) and Business and Management (8th) .

The city is nice... I'm from just north of Bristol, about 25 miles from Bath, so I've visited the city on occasion. The Roman Baths are pretty cool to visit and the shopping area is pretty nice to walk around too. If I remember correctly, the university is up on a hill on the outskirts of the city, a mile or two from the city centre.

Are you doing an undergraduate or a graduate degree? I went to Bath Spa to do my master's, but I was often at Uni of Bath using their library which was fantastic. As ksand24 pointed out, it always ranks high in the league tables, particularly dealing with the sciences.

Bath is a great little city, but if you're looking for the excitement of London, you won't find it there. There are pubs, clubs, great shops, and lots of culture. There are good train links to other parts of the country. Bristol isn't too far away if you're looking for a bit more excitement. I lived there for 2.5 years and I really loved it. The university is set up away from the city centre on a hill and has a campus similar to an American university, but there are good bus links up to the uni.

And it's home to one of my favourite restaurants!

But I understand the uni is very good for sciences. It ranks consistently in the top 15 universities overall:

I will be going for a graduate degree. I wasn't looking for a lot of excitement so that wouldn't be a problem.

I am considering going to University of Bath as well. Its between University of East Anglia and University of Bath. I am going to study International Development (postgraduate). I cant find much information to compare and contrast them in terms of quality of programs so the decision process is nerve wracking for me right now. It would be interesting to get someone's opinion from the UK besides the rankings they put out...

My husband went to Bath for MA of Biochemistry.  He says it's an excellent school for Biology, and they have a lot of good lecturers there including Michael Danson.

He says that that or Imperial (where he works) are probably the best schools in the country for Biology.  If you have specific questions, I could ask him and relay them, or maybe he can find his login details for his account here he never uses.

ETA: As far as the second poster, he doesn't know much about that program, but he could maybe answer more general questions.
