Man you guys are just full of great information! I had no idea that cups/tbsps were different in the UK than the US. That explains why one of my American recipies I tried out when I was last there didn't turn out quite right...

I have checked several Scottish grocery stores so far and have yet to see butter with markings on it, but I'll keep my eye out. In the meantime I will use the conversions and weigh it out...only thing is, what do you do when you cut too much off the stick? LOL, you can't really glue it back to the stick!  ;D

I pop it into a little container and hubby will put it on toast or something.  Or I'll use it to grease the pan if that's needed...

The brand I found with the 25 gram marks is Galloway Scottish Butter, so you should be able to find it.  The thing is, the marks are on the bit of the foil that's covered so you wouldn't have seen them in the shop unless you opened the foil a little.  I think it was £1 at Tesco.

To be fair though, I've noticed that each shop (even within the same chain) will carry completely different types of butter.  You go to one Tesco and it's got the token Tesco Value and Lurpak plus a Graham's Scottish Butter, but then you go to another and it's got something else.

I don't glue it, but I do sort of smush it back with the rest of the butter, and wrap it all up again.

Most of my recipes are from the US.  I still have measuring spoons and cups.  I leave the butter out overnight to get soft and it's easier to pack it into your spoon, cup or whatever that way.
Yup. That's what I did too.

I giggled when I read all of these and I thought wow I must not cook right...Yes I measure things but it is never exact. I don't have a UK scale thing and I have my US measuring cups but I do have a Pyrex glass thing for liquids.
I found a glass cutting board that has all the conversion right on it as shown below. *I got it at home bargins for maybe £5 - it works wonders.

I figure hey with butter even a little too much does it really make the recipe go wrong  ;D

You can't do a simple comparison from cup to weight, it depends on the item...for example a cup of flour doesn't weigh as much as a cup of butter because of the density.
