Okay, so I may not be a mom yet, but my husband and I decided ages ago that when we do have children, they will be born and raised in the UK (just what we want). I stumbled upon this report and just found it interesting:
http://www.savethechildren.org/publications/state-of-the-worlds-mothers-report/SOWM-2010-Index-Rankings.pdfApparently, it ranks countries as the best/worst places to be a mom. The UK ranks 14th for this year and the US is ranked 28th (don't get me wrong, 28th out of 160 isn't too bad by any stretch). In reading, it takes into account factors affecting women and the child's well-being and health. Factors such as maternity leave, death rate, etc.
Again, it's just something that I found interesting and thought I would share in case others were interested as well.
