Something cheerful for a change...
« on: July 20, 2010, 03:57:54 PM »
I'm not usually so active in forums but I've just noticed that my only two posts are extremely negative and I don't want to give the wrong impression... I really do enjoy it here!

Believe it or not, I love the British weather! Oh sure, a run of nasty, wet days (especially in summer) can get me down but it's so changeable you rarely go long without at least a glimmer of sunshine and hope.

You ever notice how the BBC makes it look like the weather is incredibly good here? It seems like the sun is always shining on TV. The truth is that they hang out under umbrellas for hours waiting for that one 5 minute opening when the clouds crack and let the sun in.

My wife doesn't understand how I'm so unbothered by the weather. But I grew up in California and got enough sun to last a lifetime. She grew up in Europe where most of the time people craved the sun and every moment of it was precious. It's all relative.

I actually like English weather too.  I love it windy, I love it cold, cool, wet, foggy.  I think its great.  Im not much into sun and heat...so I think I will be fine.  :P

We've had hot sun and humidity into the 90's for 33 days running.  When you put together hot sunshine, 95 degrees and 88% humidity, it is bound to make the day miserable.  You can barely walk out the door.  You sweat right outside your front door in the morning for work!  lol  This is Philly not the Amazon!

I will say living in Devon last summer (one of the rainiest they had according to the locals) had made me crave sun and heat.  I will say now that after 33 days of it, a lovely Devon rain and 65 degrees would be bliss.   ;)

I'm from NJ so of course they're getting the same weather.  My parents were telling me the dog didn't want to go outside anymore.

Can't say I miss that weather at all, besides the thunderstorms.  I also burn like it's going out of style, so needless to say this Scottish summer is suiting me just fine!  :)

Smart dog, NoseOvertail.   [smiley=blush.gif]

Because it's hot and sticky and gross.  I got in the car yesterday after work (no windows cracked because we've gotten thunder storms as well) and in no less than a few seconds, my skin had a sheen on it from the moisture in the air.  It is really bad.  My poor English husband is melting.  lol

It's basically the same in Boston, MA!  [smiley=goofy.gif]

I can't stand the summer when it's like this (which is, unfortunately, most of the summer).

I LOVE the weather here! I just miss the A/C a bit in the summer when it gets stuffy, especially on the bus and Tube. Northeast Ohio had a record amount of snow this past winter and a record average heat for the month of June (or so my mother has told me). Apparently the UK had one of its coldest winters this year, but it was the warmest one in my life. So glad to have moved!  ;D

My husband told me the winters aren't nearly as cold there as here.  He was freezing this winter.  lol  And, we had a record snowfall as well.  We had like 4 massive snow blizzards in a month and in the end accumulated over 80 inches of snow I think.  Our street was actually closed while dump trucks were loaded with snow and dumped into the Delaware river.  So, these winters, I can do without.

But, I insist if we aren't going to have AC in England, we better have a fan.  There were nights I would sleep and not have the window open because of no screens and I'd be roasting while he'd be sleeping like a baby.  lol  [smiley=freak.gif]

It's been hot enough here in Texas that my cat who usually loves to be outside lost her enthusiasm for it.

I'm not a fan of hot weather so I am usually very happy here.  (Recent weather excepted).
