Cat's shots due, what do I do?
« on: August 01, 2010, 11:28:31 PM »
I just got an email from my vet saying that my cat is due for his:

FVRCP-C Annual - 08/26/2010
Fel Calici - Virulent Annual - 08/26/2010
Rabies 1 year - Feline - 08/26/2010

We have done most of the Pet Scheme procedures with the exception of having the EC 998 Form endorsed by my state USDA vet.

I have set a deadline for myself in that I will apply for my spousal visa by this Friday. However despite the fact that I'm going to use the settlement priority service, I know that it might be a while before my cat and I can fly. I was kinda hoping we'd both be in England by now!

Will having to get him re-vaccinated set us back more or mean that we have to do the blood test over? When we get the shots, does he need more documentation from the vet?

Just looked at our vet certificate and realised that it has my old address. (I've been living in a new flat here in the US for about 2 months) Will I need to have the form filled out again with the new address even if my phone number is the same?

I'm no expert on the PETS scheme, but I believe that as long as your cat continues to be vaccinated for Rabies (without being late..if you go even ONE DAY over when she is due I believe the results are now invalid) kitty should still be able to enter the UK as planned. I don't know how that will change the paperwork (besides obviously having to include the new rabies certificate and whatnot).

Honestly, I would save yourself the trouble and get her a three-year rabies vaccine so you don't have this problem if things get delayed any further...or if you are sure you are moving to the UK soon, so that when you move you have time to get set up and find a new vet before kitty is due for rabies again (if you want to keep up her PETS paperwork...).

The PETS scheme doest care about the FVRCP or Fel Calici, but like Reinadeluz said, you MUST get the rabies vaccine done to maintain her eligibility for PETS.  You will not have to get another titer test.

Make sure you get a vaccination certificate that lists your cat's microchip number (preferably printed, not handwritten) on the certificate.  You will then need to take this certificate and the certificate for the previous vaccination to the USDA to prove there has not been a lapse in rabies "protection".

As the other posters said, as long as you get the rabies re-done on/before Aug 26 you're fine. You'll just need to bring the EC 998 and the new rabies certificate (proving no lapse in coverage) to the USDA vet.

I would recommend getting a receipt proving the other vaccines have been done as well, since this will help if you decide to get the pet passport.

Thanks so much everyone! I feel a lot better about this! I will definitely schedule the rabies shot for George.

Reinadeluz, I'm kicking myself over not getting the 3 year rabies vaccine! When I had all the stuff done last year, I was a poor English major, so I thought it would be best to save money.  :(
