Airports
« on: July 31, 2010, 04:09:51 PM »
My American civil partner and I (Brit) will be travelling back to the US in September for a visit. We live in the UK. We want to go through USA Immigration together since we are civil partners and are wondering whether I should go through the US citizens line with her or whether she should go through the non US nationals line with me? I think it will be easier on the return trip in the UK for us both to go through the UK nationals line as CPs are legal  here. Any advice welcomed - many thanks.

I'm not an expert, but I believe she's allowed to go through the US line with you because she's your family and you're travelling together.

The best advice I've seen on this question, though, is to look for the immigration person helping to direct traffic prior to the lines and ask them what you're supposed to do.  That way if you get any grief from the immigration officer you have somebody to point to to say, "They told us to do it this way."

I agree. And you may find as you travel more if you go into different airports you will receive a different answer...not all locations will do the same thing.

There are also times where they won't let you go together :(
