Going back to US
« on: June 13, 2010, 12:50:53 PM »
Hi folks!
I have been in the UK doing social work since last October and have decided to go home. Leaving July 1. It's been an adventure, but the work is not for me.
Just wanted to stop by and connect. Good luck to you all!

I left Essex too a few months ago as the job was not what I expected.  Good luck to you.

Any updates? How was the move back -- how does it feel to be back now? Do you feel like you were hasty in returning?

Well, I will respond since I too worked with the OP and left the UK fairly quickly.

I don't feel that I was too hasty in leaving.  I loved the people that I met but doing my job (social work) in the UK was awful and our flat literally fell apart and the management company was very slow to fix it. Even after it was fixed it wasn't completely repaired.  By then we were so tired of dealing with all of the extra stuff that adjusting to a new country was a bit much.

My situation is likely very different though.  I believe we were meant to return to the States when we did because of some life changing events that have occured since then.  If we hadn't left when we did, we would be dealing with them in another country and I'm not sure how I could have gotten through the past few months without my family.

I believe when you feel strongly that you should do something, you should listen to that voice inside because there is a reason for it.  I'm grateful that we listened and I look forward to returning to the UK as a visitor to see some great friends.

This is so important. I am glad that you are happy with your decision. Best of luck with your life back in the US!  :)
