My dog... safely in England and in Quarantine!
« on: September 10, 2010, 11:20:13 PM »
Thank GOD I booked Sophie to her flight regardless of whether I would make mine because apparently it could have taken 5 days to straighten out the paperwork had she missed her window of flight time!

I heard she was really nasty to all the men at Manchester airport and the people who picked her up, growling barking etc, and when I had talked to the kennel yesterday they had asked if I could get there asap after I landed because she was so aggressive they couldn't give her a bath!

Forward to my driving 4 hours straight from my new flight landing in London to get there before they close (Yorkshire Int Quarantine) and there she is, all bathed and happy letting (the women only) pet her.  What a relief!

Here is a link to photos of her kennel:

For day two I think she is doing great!  And the quarantine facility looks fine to me, I have a feeling the 7 weeks she has to stay will go quick.

Glad to hear she's doing well! Why does she have to stay for 7 weeks? Did you fly before the 6-month PETS wait was up?

Yes exactly, I didn't have six months from when I realized I was going, so she has 7 more weeks until PETS kicks in.

Actually you could probably save a lot of stress and a little money if you quarantined a dog for about a week when getting here instead of flying after the six months.  There are some hefty charges for the getting through customs and the vet at the airport and you have to be on the dogs flight if they are finished the six months wait, but you bypass all that with quarantine.  You don't have to be on her flight, and you just pay the airport pick up of the quarantine place (£300 plus a week of quarantine £65).
