Dress shopping in London....help
« on: September 28, 2010, 10:18:09 AM »
For the first (and hopefully only) time, I wish I were back in New York.  My wedding is coming up fast and I don't know where to look for a dress.

The trouble is I don't want a wedding gown, and I'm afraid that's all the wedding shops will sell.  We're getting married at the register office, so I want something very simple.  Just a regular dress...that happens to be white(ish).  Does anyone know where I can look in the London area?

Thanks!

I found my non-wedding white dress at Coast and thought it was perfect.  I think I had to order online though because they had the style I wanted in the store but not the color.

Try some of the department stores...I just took a look at John Lewis, and found this little number that is simple, looks appropriate for a registry office and still is a bit "wedding."

You don't say where in London you are, but Westfield Mall might be a great place to check out...they have Debenhams, John Lewis and other dress shops.

Good Luck!

this little number

That's pretty!

You might also want to check Phase Eight - I saw this which I thought was nice. Monsoon or Laura Ashley might have a few appropriate dresses, too.

I think it may be a bit difficult at this time of year, though, because most autumn/winter things seem to be in darker colours.  :-\\\\

Thanks for the tips!  I spent ages at Westfield yesterday, but like chary mentioned, it seems to be too late in the year for a lot of light colors.   :-\\\\

I tried on that exact dress from John Lewis yesterday!  Unfortunately, they only had it in my size in black, so it was hard to tell if it was THE dress.  But due to the time of year, it's on my "maybe" list.  I'll definitely check out the stores everyone mentioned.  Wish me luck and thanks again  :)
