Need Help Getting Started
« on: September 28, 2010, 05:38:41 PM »
I am currently a student in Texas.  My fiance lives in the UK.  After I graduate in August of next year I will be moving to the UK and we will be getting married in November.  I haven't the first clue of where or when I need to start the visa process.  Any help anyone can offer me who's had a similar experience would be greatly appreciated!!

You will need a Fiance(e) visa in order to get married in the UK and settle here.

You can find a good list of the documentation that you will need here: http://londonelegance.com/transpondia/fiance/

You will find a good idea of the process here: https://www.visainfoservices.com/Pages/Welcome.aspx just select 'United States' from the Drop Down menu and then 'How do I apply?' from the menu on the left, you may also want to check out the 'Additional Services' section of this website as well.

The acutal online application that you will use to do your visa can be found here: http://www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk/  The Category that you will select is 'Settlement' and the Type will be 'Marriage'.

You can apply up to 3 months in advance of your travel date...plus, you & your fiance need to be at least 21 years of age in order to qualify.

If you need additional information just let us know.

Oh, Welcome to UKY.

You can apply for a visa up to 3 months in advance of your intended travel date.

If your fiance is a British citizen or permanent resident, and you want to get married (and settle) in the UK, you would be applying for a fiance/e visa.  Here are pages with some information for further reading:

http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/infs/settlementguide

http://londonelegance.com/transpondia/fiance/

IMO, since you won't be applying for quite some time (August of 2011 right?), you should also remember to keep an eye out for any possible changes to visas.  What's valid now may or may not be valid by the time you apply.
