What's the American term for an arm badge?

As in something that would be worn on a military uniform

Isn't it called something other than a badge in the US?

I was thinking that when I was a Girl Scout, I got merit badges, so maybe badge is a US term also.

US military has a number of terms: Badges, insignias, ribbons, devices, tabs, medals and patches.

If the American military uses badge, I'll keep badge. It's referring to the British military, but I'm writing for a largely American audience.

I was thinking of the Girl Scout thing too.  I think badge in the US is something you sew on, whereas in the UK it means a pin sort of thing.

Yes, badges in the US would be the sewn on type. 

Ribbons are pinned on and then devices are usually attached to pins, but I think everyone would know what you mean. 

My name was on a ribbon type thing and was sewn on my BDUs, but I also had a pin for my dress blues.

I didn't mean a name badge. I meant a symbol on the uniform that is associated with a particular military unit.

Why did you leave the AF? Probably for the same reason as me. I like more control over my life.
