KitchedAid Mixer - Please Help!

I'm one of the ones who used a US KitchenAid with a transformer and had no problems at all. I used a British company who specialized in them. I didn't just get one from a high street electrical goods store. I had no problems at all and I then sold my KitchenAid to another UKY member and as far as I am aware, she's had no problems either.

Indeed, that's me!! And I use the transformer happily with my kitchen aid mixer and kitchen aid food processor and cuisanart coffee grinder and roomba charger and anything else that I still have that doesn't use 110-240 voltage     No problems here 

If it is in American voltage, you'll need a step transformer to have it operate properly over here. The problem is that the motor won't end up spinning at the proper speed (it will be slightly off), and the motor will suffer a premature death.

I have heard that appliances don't last as long if you're using them with a transformer. How much of a difference it actually makes to their lives, I'm not sure.

According to your budget this probably isn't helpful , but John Lewis, House of Fraser and Debenhems all list Kitchenaid mixers at £389.  Finding a new one for £180 in the UK seems optimistic.  I am certainly no expert on this, but what you have to be careful with buying US appliances to use in the UK is the voltage.  US appliances are 110V, I think and UK are 220V.  Even with a converter you will risk the appliance not running correctly, overheating, etc.

I asked my dad to ask his friend who is very knowledgeable in the electrical department, he's an electrician and before eveb mentioning the voltage issue ourselves, he mentioned the difference in voltages and that I would need a transformer. When asked how much it would cost, he said £50.

That would take me to a total of around £180.

I know Kitchenaid mixers are gorgeous, I have a beautiful Almond one myself, but if you want a mixer, why not look at the Kenwood Chef, its British made and you might be able to find a good second hand one on Ebay here in the UK. Its just a thought!

Kenwood Chef mixers seem to be really expensive and their bowl isn't big either. If someone could fine me one at £150 I would go for itm but it would have to be worth that if it was second hand. I have had no luck as of yet.

Yes it is. I sold Phat my transformer. The KitchenAid actually went to another UKY member who bought her own transformer from the same company. I spoke directly to the people there and they told me what I needed.

So what do you think about the comments of motor not working as well sooner or later even when using a transformer?

Aside from that, I either pruchase from the US with the tranformer for a total of £180 or just under, or I buy aused or refurbished one from here.

I did see a listing on a website that lets you post listings for free in the UK, which had one for £200 from John Lewis, and barely used, but not received a reply yet. If you see anything similar please post here.

I suppose it depends upon how much you use it. I didn't use it daily, sometimes not even weekly. So I really saw it as a non-issue. I'd probably speak to the people at Newmarket about it if you are that worried.

i have experience with the opposite issue, using a UK kitchenaid in the US on transformer, but it may be relevant. i took my KA mixer to the US and bought a transformer there.  (also took UK magimix food processor )  i spoke to company reps and bought recommended transformer.  the ka mixerworked fine, but i did notice a difference in the way the motor sounded and it seemed to 'work harder'.  (the magimix just didn't work at all after a few seconds, fyi)   i have since moved back to europe, and both appliances are working fine.  when i move back to the US this time, i will get rid of both of them, though, because they don't seem to do optimal work on transformer.  that may have to do with the fact that the110 power source in the US was not strong enough, even with the step up function of the transformer.

I am so confused on what to do.

I bought both my KA mixer and food processor in the US(back in the good old days of kick ass exchange rates) and bought a 1000 watt step up/step down transformer here in the UK.  The thing is a tank and probably weighs 10 lbs but better to be safe than sorry.  I've never had a problem using them but like someone said I used a specialist company and spoke to them regarding my needs.

I went to an event and they had them there, it was the first thing I looked at! I was so excited I bought two, one for me one for my mum. but she doesn't want it.

So now I have a brand new one in the box unopened. If any of you guys want it I don't mind giving it at a good price.

I posted this topic because I live in the UK and it is so much more expensive here. I went to an event in the UK and bought two out of excitement, because they were cheaper than anywhere else. You can have my spare if you want.

If anyone is interested, the cheapest in the UK is about £230.
