I had my biometrics appointment today. What a surprisingly smooth and pleasant experience! There are two approved centers in Michigan, one in Detroit and one in Grand Rapids--I used the one in Grand Rapids.
I showed up at the appointed time and a guard at the front desk checked my appointment slip and compared that the passport listed was indeed the passport I was using. He then let me into the main room and told me to wait for my number to be called.
I entered the main room, and before I could even sit down in a chair, a smiling young woman told me I could come right over to her station. In 5 minutes she had scanned my fingerprints and taken my picture and was cheerful, polite and helpful the entire time. I walked out the door 5 minutes after I walked in and felt like I had been treated like a true customer and not an imposition. It was a great experience!
