to London and back
« on: December 09, 2010, 06:51:15 PM »
DH has an appt in London for his US immigration medical exam.  On 23 December.   :-\\\\  I'm not sure if I'm excited or dreading it.  London on the day before Christmas Eve...  I imagine it could be a bit manic.  Or maybe it will be lovely and our camera will get a workout.
We can take the train or coach, it's a difference of about 2 hours and over £100.  I haven't decided yet.
Any words of advice for travelling to the capital on what might be a very busy day?

Go to Harrods & see the Christmas window display!  :)
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in...

We always take the train when we go to London and did this past time when DH had his medical in November. I'd hate to be stuck on a coach especially coming all the way you'd have to.

Book seats on the train!!  It's going to be so packed that unless you book the seats you won't get any!  If you decide to take the train that is.

I always take the coach when I go to London, for me it's the same length of time and a fraction of the price.  Plus, lots of National Express coaches have free WiFi and some have snack service.  But of course, YMMV.

Go to Harrods & see the Christmas window display!  :)

Definitely!  And the tree in Trafalgar Square.  I love London at Christmas!

Actually, I'm jealous! :P Three Christmases here, and I have never been in the city centre anywhere near the actual day. We always say we'll go, and then we don't. Take lots of pictures! I bet it will be great. :)

Avoid Oxford Street.
:D

Or at least know in advance that it is nothing short of overpacked sardines shuffling at an awkward pace down the sidewalk -- and then you're mentally prepared.   ;)

Aww, but at least you see your family, yay!

The boy and I are having xmas eve dinner at Skylon  (I actually wanted the Swan at the Globe or Platform but they were booked up/closed :( http://www.skylon-restaurant.co.uk/ ) specifically for the view :) So we're going to wander around Trafalgar square, look at the tree and the lights and then stroll by the river, german xmas market and finish with xmas eve dinner overlooking the Thames, I'm super excited!
