Harrow - Looking for some pals
« on: October 05, 2011, 01:32:51 PM »
I grew up in Baltimore, MD and I live in Harrow on the Hill. I've been here for just about three weeks. I'd be very glad to meet anyone for coffee or a pint sometime. This is weird, like writing a personal ad or something, but I'm thinking it might be helpful to put out some things about myself, so here goes:

Liberal, pushing forty, recently married to an Icelander, looking for work, don't have any kids. I think Obama could be doing the best job of being president, but everyone would still be mad because things are just hard right now. I love reading Jane Austen and Dickens, but I also love sci-fi. I think this makes sense because the odds of me getting a lift in the Tardis are just as likely as the odds of me getting invited to Pemberly. I'm all about balance, so I'm a Raven's fan as well. There is nothing better than standing in a parking lot, eating a sausage with peppers, and drinking beer at ten in the morning with a bunch of people in purple jerseys. I am completely incapable of finding my phone in my bag.

I had a great poetry workshop going in the states. I would meet with two good friends once a month, and we'd each bring one poem to workshop. We'd spend about 50% of the time laughing over silly English major jokes, and 50% of the time actually working. I'd love to get something like that going over here.

I am randomly homesick, and it creeps up as a burning desire for air conditioning or apple sauce, and then balloons into all sorts of things. However, I taught myself how to make apple sauce today, so that is progress. Now I just have to teach myself how to build central air conditioning and a tumble dryer. And Netflix. Boy do I miss Netflix streaming over the Wii...
Sometimes I amaze even myself.
