Canned Tuna
« on: December 22, 2010, 12:17:02 PM »
I always bought White Chunk tuna in spring water, we loved it.  I bought some Princes Chunk Tuna in water at Tesco yesterday and it was well.......not sure how to describe it politely.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to what is close to the White chunk at home?  Thanks

Try Albacore tuna.

Morrison's and Sainsbury's do albacore tuna, and Morrison's is very reasonably priced. I've not had luck finding it at any other supermarkets, though Waitrose may sell it (we don't have a Waitrose anywhere near us).

Yes to what Historyenne said. Not sure about Tesco, but Morrisons & Sainsburys both carry (white) albacore tuna in the tin, in either water or in oil. That's what I buy. Sainsburys used to carry a really posh one in glass jars before they had it in the tins, but not sure if they have that one (Taste the Difference range albacore) any longer. The albacore is more expensive than the regular tuna, but worth it, IMO.

Thank you so much for your advice.  I will have to look in Morrisons or sainsburys.  I looked for albacore in Tesco but as I could not see any decided it must just be the regular chunk tuna.........how wrong was I!  Merry Christmas to you all

Is it expensive, Cali Girl? The jarred stuff that Sainsbury's used to sell was so pricey that I'd only eat it as a special treat!

I saw albacore at the big giant Tesco's this morning, which was a first for me. However, it was stupidly expensive and they only had it in oil. I'll stick to the cheap tins from Morrison's.  :)

I've seen Princes Albacore at ASDA as well.
