There is a grea work-visa programme that you can take part in durring university or at the end of your degree.  Check out www.bunac.org for the details.

Also, you may want to check out the uk immigration pages, they may clarify some stuff for you.

Good luck!

You mentioned in another post that you were born in the UK.  Are one of your parents a UK citizen?  You might be entitled to a UK passport, in which case you wouldn't need a visa at all - you would simply need to register your citizenship.

There are others on here who have done the same thing - hopefully they can help you.

nope, my parents are canadian citizens, they didnt live there long enough before i was born. and i only lived there for 2 and a half years. I have cousins, uncles and aunts who are uk citizens, but i doubt that will help me.

Well, as a Canadian citizen, that makes you part of the "commonwealth" as well - that means that things like Working Holidaymaker visas are applicable to you.

Got any UK or Irish grandparents?

Do I qualify for UK Ancestry?
You will qualify if you can show that:
you are a Commonwealth citizen
you are aged 17 or over
you have a grandparent who was born in the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man*
you have a grandparent who was born in what is now the Republic of Ireland before 31 March 1922*
you are able to work and intend to do so in the UK
you can support and accommodate yourself and any dependants without any help from public funds
*If you or your parent through whom you are claiming ancestry are adopted you can still apply for entry under this category. You must show evidence of the legal adoption with your application form.

You must get a visa, before you travel to the UK, for UK Ancestry.

This visa allows you to live & work in the UK for 4 years - after which I think you can apply for citizenship.  But it means that you wouldn't have any work restrictions, as you would under a student visa which only allows you to work 20 hours per week during term time.

Just a thought.

Also, the Ancestry Visa peedal has mentioned above can be renewed once the 4 years is nearly up, so you can stay in the UK indefinitely based on it.

Information about the Working Holidaymaker visa, which allows Commonwealth citizens to live & work in the UK for up to 2 years, can be found here:  http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/servlet/Front?pagename=OpenMarket/Xcelerate/ShowPage&c=Page&cid=1018721068240
