Reserving snow-cleared parking space
« on: January 13, 2011, 08:09:39 PM »
Being from Fl...

I have lately read about a system of sorts used in the NE where people who clear parking spaces then 'reserve' them by putting stuff in the space. Like this:

Is this an urban myth?
I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

Do you mean in the US or in the UK?  It happens all the time in the US.

Boston (USA) is notorious for it.  Every year the local government makes a big statement that they won't tolerate it and they will remove items, blah blah blah.  But I think locals always seem to win one way or another.  I know, I would never park in a cleared spot with a cone or chair in it.  It's like asking for your car to be keyed.

In Baltimore I used a beach chair and a short 2x4 I found in the basement. Worked a charm!  ;D

Aw- This is a brilliant idea for parking issues I have here... To bad anything I would put in the street, some scally would snatch right up!  ;D
We stole countries with the cunning use of flags. Just sail around the world and stick a flag in. "I claim India for Britain!" They're going "You can't claim us, we live here! Five hundred million of us!" "Do you have a flag …? "What? We don't need a flag, this is our home, you bastards" "No flag, No Country, You can't have one! Those are the rules... that I just made up!...and I'm backing it up with this gun, that was lent to me from the National Rifle Association."

I live near Old Trafford Football Ground and everyone in the hood puts out dodgy looking cones on match day. We just always leave a car in the street.
