My baby cat might be have to be put to sleep... so worried...

She is the sweetest cat and will be a year in March but she is pain and can't walk right she can't even scratch her ear with her back paw right now... The vet said we might need to take her to a specialist because he thinks it might be nerve issues. Praise God we had insurance on her because the x rays were 300 but we only had to pay 65 because the insurance paid the rest. I am just hoping that she can be helped and that they insurance pays for most of it because I cannot imagine putting my baby down.... We don't have money at all.

I am worried to bits about her.... i love my lil baby so much.

Oh, so sorry to hear you have an ailing cat. Hope they can sort the poor little thing out.

You don't even know what's wrong with her yet. It is way too early to even think about putting her down.

DH took footage that the vet was impressed with on Poppie walking up and down the steps. He also took other shots as well.
Vet said that she has a lax kneecap and that she needs surgery on it. Said it would cost around £1,000 but that the pet insurance I took out will pay for it. Praise God!

He also thinks she could have hip problems but wants to tackle one thing at a time. He said it might not be nerve damage now but he doesn't know what the twitching is from.

Poppie is going on on Feb 14th and might have to stay over night. Then she will have to be in a cage for 6 weeks. Hopefully that is all that is wrong.

The vet has been so good Poppie and nice to us. Will keep you all posted.

Hope she gets thru surgery well... and that we find a cheap but good cage... any recommendations on cages?  She has to have one that she can have her litter box in...

This isn't really related, but our dog had ACL surgery (I think it "runs in the family", as my mom and I both did, too!). It was definitely tough on her - I felt horrible driving home when she'd whimper at every slight jostling. We took her to doggie rehab (they had a tank so that she could swim/walk in water to strengthen her legs with low impact) for a few weeks, and just gradually built up her tolerance.

5+ years later, she's doing great. Sure, she'll act all gimpy and "oh, woe is me, sitting is so hard to do", but then somehow she miraculously finds a way to stand up on her hind legs to steal food off the counters.

So..different species, and different problem, but having leg surgery isn't the end of the world.

We also had a cat who was run over by a car rehab successfully in a shower stall for 2-3 months..she broke her pelvis and couldn't move, and broke her jaw and had it wired shut for a few weeks. That was fun. (She recovered fine and lived for another 15 years.)

I had a Norwegian Forest cat who had a femoral-head removal before I rescued him.  Apparently, he had it pretty young.  Even at the age of 6 years, he was climbing trees like nothing had ever happened to him.  I found out about the surgery when I took him for X-rays due to a defective carrier dumping him out.  He limped a bit after that, and the vet X-rayed his leg and found the old surgery.  It turned out his limp was a very slight luxating of the patella, but rest cured it.  I don't know how old your kitty is, but hope the surgery and recovery go well.
