FedEx Flat Rate Boxes?
« on: February 17, 2011, 02:10:31 AM »
I saw these on the FedEx website and wondered if anyone has used this method to ship anything from the US to UK for their international move? Was it more expensive than other methods?

I really only plan to send maybe 3 boxes of my belongings at most and would like to know the best way to accomplish this that isn't too terribly expensive. I'm open to suggestion because I admit to being clueless about this step.

Thanks!  :)

FedEx or UPS is the only way to send something valuable, but they are very expensive.

I didn't use flat rate boxes. I sent three boxes, each about one cubic foot in size. Two weighed around 20lb and one weighed around 10lb. Total cost was around $400. This was Oct 2010.

The FedEx website has a shipping calculator you should be able to use to get an idea.

For 3 boxes it would probably just be cheaper to pack them in a suitcase them as excess baggage.

That's what we would have done if we didn't already have 10 bags, two XL crates and two dogs.

Thanks for the suggestions. I might end up buying another single suitcase to save on some costs since it is a relatively small amount of things I will (can) take.

FedEx was pretty expensive according to the shipping calculator for the flat rate boxes by weight.
