Does anyone have any advice on any virus protection?

Horton is too expensive.

If you've got a Mac, Sophos has a damned decent antivirus for free.  If you have a PC and still have a connection to the university you went to (if you did), you may well be able to download one for free.  There's usually something about that on the homepage of the university IT department.

My husband has Microsoft Essentials installed on all our computers.  It's free and provides a good anti-virus/anti-malware protection.

Previously, he'd had us using the free version of AVG.  I think we switched because he felt that the AVG program itself was getting too bloated, and not because he didn't think it worked.

I'm in the US and have been happy with AVG Free.

I use avast! and have been very happy with it. And not just because it makes me feel like a pirate. Arr!  ;D

AVGFree user here, and I also occasionally scan with Malwarebytes (also free) which is handy for picking out little spyware/malware problems that even the antivirus programmes can miss.
