Moving from PA to the Sunderland area
« on: January 28, 2011, 06:43:44 PM »
Hi all. :)  I currently live near Allentown, PA.  I met an amazing guy from Sunderland a few months ago.  I'm considering moving to England this Fall.  This website/forum has been a wonderful source of information.  I can't wait to meet everyone. :)

Hi.  I'm from Allentown, but don't live near Sunderland.  Welcome though.  :)

Hi!  I used to work at the Lehigh Valley Mall & I grew up near Reading. There are quite a few people from PA on here.
Welcome to UKY!

I don't think i am even in the correct chat but here goes..LOL. I just submitted my Civil Partnership documents (Feb 9th they sent me an email stating it has arrived safely) to the British Consulate in New York. I paid for the priority service. It is not clear as to how many days is takes for approval. Also, they have my original passport and i might have to travel for work outside of the United States. At this point that does not seem possible. I have many other questions but i am new here and want to make sure i posted in the correct area. Please let me know and thank you.

My 2 questions are:
1) how long does it take for approval? (my case is straight forward)
2) Do they keep my passport until the descion is made?

You should repost this in the Visas & Citizenship section of the forum.

By the way, I'm from Pittsburgh. :) Nice to see another PAer around. There's a ton of us! Welcome.
Finally living with my Husband in London after 6 1/2 years together but apart... and loving my life!

I've just answered your questions in the other thread, but you didn't mention your passport there, so I'll just say something here too:

1) If you used priority processing and your case is straightforward, the visa should be approved within 15 working days of them opening your package.

2) Yes, they keep your passport, because they have to put the visa inside it  :P. No passport =  no visa, and if you tried to ask them to give your passport back, your entire application would be withdrawn, you would lose the application fee and you wouldn't get a visa at all (you would have to reapply all over again).

However, if you paid for priority, then you should hopefully get your visa in the next couple of weeks anyway.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

Danielle - I spend quite a bit of time at the Lehigh Valley Mall. :)
