one more simple tax question
« on: February 28, 2011, 04:49:51 PM »
I thank anyone who replies.

I am in the states, returned last week.  I worked part time in 2010 in the UK, and brought my payslips with me.  It should be very simple.  I think.  :-\\\\  My question is, now that I'm living in the US again do I file in the regular way, no need for special forms since I'm no longer a UK resident?

What's the question?   I'm pretty sure I don't have the answer, but you can thank me anyway - for replying.  ;) ;D

Well either way would have been a 1040 form so that's no different.

Don't know for certain but I'd imagine since all your tax year 2010 earnings were in the UK you'd have to file as if you were still here (because you were resident abroad the whole tax year).  I'd also think you wouldn't get that automatic extension though since you're back in the US now and would have to file by April 15.

If you want to claim tax credits for the UK tax you paid, you'd still need to complete the Foreign Tax Credit pages, as well as the FEI pages (if you want to claim an exemption for that time up to $93,500 pro rata).

Other than that, should be straight forward. Let me know if you need further help!
