Congrats!  I'm in London and currently at 35 weeks so no birth experience yet!  But soon!  I have found it to be confusing because I don't really have any same-ageish friends here, whereas in the US, I picked up all sorts of info by osmosis.  I worked in a hospital and most of my friends had kids in their mid 30s (I'm 38) so while, you know, the basic mechanics are the same ( :P ), the lingo is completely different and I find myself scurrying to look up terminology.

[First post ever. Yikes.]

OneTiger, congratulations! How exciting.

I gave birth two weeks ago in a London NHS hospital. I couldn't be more pleased with both the care and aftercare. I live in NW London and researched the whole hospital and care thing quite thoroughly. I also considered going private as I was initially quite nervous about it. I really needn't have worried; I just needed to educate myself and I'm glad I didn't go private.

As others have said Mumsnet is a gem.
Dr. Foster's birth guide was also a good resource in researching hospitals.
And One Born Every Minute episodes (Channel 4OD) gave us a really good sense of what happens on the labour ward.
Feel free to message me if I can be of more help.

Unfortunately began to miscarry last night.  As a positive, at least we know it's possible for me to get pregnant at this 'old' age.
