Can you buy...there?
« on: March 30, 2011, 03:18:15 PM »
Buttermilk?

Queso?

If not queso, then Velveeta?

Good bleu cheese dressing, the thick creamy sort?

 ;D
We met in Tokyo through friends when we both lived in Japan.

Last year we moved to Thailand, got our first apartment together, got jobs with the same employer (!), didn't end up killing each other, got married, and decided to move to the UK to settle down.

London, here we come!

Buttermilk - yes

Queso - No
Velveeta - No

You can buy blue cheese dressing but I find it too sweet..most dressings here I find too sweet..better to make it yourself!

Briannas which I think is a US brand is available at Waitrose, so their Blue Cheese should be to your liking:

Haven't tried the Briannas bleu cheese but there other dressings are lovely, thanks for the heads up!  :D

Marie's chunky bleu cheese dressing is my ideal: thick and chunky, perfect for buffalo wings and veggie dipping!  ;D  http://www.maries.com/dressings.aspx

Not the sort you use on salads (or pizza if you're so inclined!) I don't care for the runny sort.   :P

Perhaps I shall try making my own.

Anything's available here, you might just have to be willing to roll your sleeves up and make it yourself!  ;D

If Marie's or Marzetti are what you like, you'll be better off making your own IMHO. Tons of recipes online!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Which is why I currently make my own hummus and bean burgers. Cannot find what I want here in Bangkok!

I don't mind making some things but if it's cheaper to buy it I prefer to do so. Bleu cheese isn't cheap so I would guess it's cheaper to buy it pre-made if you can find it. Maybe not.

Will have to do so then.  ;)

I haven't seen Velveeta as such, but Tesco sells a kraft processed cheese from I think Australia. It looks like I remember Velveeta's packaging looking like, soit may be the same thing. (I've not tried it)

Good cheeses are generally much cheaper here, I was quite suprised at the cost of cheese in the US.

It's in the Caribbean section of my local big Tesco. There's been some discussion on it before and the consensus seems to be that it tastes the same as Velveeta.

I agree with the others. I've never found a bottled salad dressing here that I like, so I always make them myself now. I do the same with a lot of things - taco seasoning, etc. I just got used to it and now I'd never look back!  :)

Good to know. Velveeta is grody but if you can't have queso dip, then it's a decent sub when mixed with salsa!  ;)

Apparently not, I posted it on this board and everyone said it was nasty. I don't eat it either.  ;)

I've served melted Velveeta mixed with salsa at parties and it disappeared. I suspect it's because no one knew what it was. Something about the word "Velveeta" seems to skeeve people, but if they don't know they're all about it.
