Finally Learned to Drive a Manual

So...whilst in the States on holiday, I decided to finally crack down and learn how to drive a manual car.  It wasn't quite so hard once I got the car going and I'm glad I've gotten the basics learned.  Once I get back to Belfast the provisional license application will be going in the post so I can take a couple of lessons to get the real thing soon.  I wanna be able to jump in a car on the weekends and drive around the country with no worries!

Flying back tomorrow so hopefully we'll have a better pilot from Atlanta to Newark than the one on the way over.  Felt like we were going to slide off the runway when he touched down since he was going SOOOO fast on touchdown.  To be honest, I'm ready to be home.  This hot weather and fatty food isn't agreeing with me!!

Well done on finally tackling standard transmission! It's definitely on my to-do list but it's much easier said than done, not least that there aren't many people around with a manual car on which to practice!

Some things written on the forums maybe incorrect so I need to clarify something I read.
The poster said you can't get a provisional license for 6 months after you land?

Don't know about that, but I've been living here for almost 2 years, so I HAVE to get a license if I want to drive.  You only have one year from the beginning of residency to use your State license and afterward you're driving illegally if you don't have a UK one! 

Always check up on the DVLA site for yourself before succumbing to rumours you might read on here!  I don't see why you couldn't apply for a license immediately, especially if you're resident here.  But that's just my opinion!

Also...I sent off my application on Monday and it was received by the office, so hopefully within three weeks I'll be provisional!  Hopefully I won't need too many lessons before I can take the test.
