Bin Men coming soooo early!
« on: May 18, 2011, 05:40:12 PM »
ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The bin men come at 4:00 a.m. every single Wednesday. I'm sooo sick of it. We live in a block of flats and our window opens up to where the dumpsters are (makes the view sound horrible  ;)) and they wake me up every. single. morning... and then I struggle for the rest of the day. Is it worth me calling the council to complain?!

Consider yourself lucky!  At least they come & collect it, which is more than I can say about the bin men here...  I'd trade a 4 am wakeup call for rotten stinking garbage hanging about for an extra week or two.  :)

No point complaining.  Bin routes are carefully worked out by Councils using a variety of factors.  They're not going to change because one block of flats complained.

That's what I was thinking. My in-laws are in Leeds and have nothing but grief with the collection situation. I am happy for collection here, even if it's inconvenient for me. Just take it away, Council!

Yeah, it's really hit or miss.  Ever since the bin strike of 2009, following which the council revamped all the collection days & routes...  Before all that, it was consistent like clockwork.  Now you just can't ever be sure when, or if, they are going to turn up at all.  One of my neighbours & I take turns over who is going to win the 'letters/emails to the council' neighbourhood crank award - all over the stupid bins!

Tuesday night, shut the window and get a noisy fan.  John Lewis has lots of them-we use one to drown out the noise of student parties/walking home drunk most evening and son has managed to stay on sleeping!

Ya, we shut the window and use a fan. I guess we are lucky. There was a lady who used to live here who complained about EVERYTHING (like you wouldn't believe) and she is no longer here and I've noticed for a while there they were coming later but as soon as she left, they come early again! That's why I was thinking her complaining worked. Oh well... I'll just deal with it!

It's the recycling truck that kills us.  Three times a week, the truck backs down the tiny little alleyway in back of our flat and it hits our building.  It hits every time, and the place it hits is literally a foot from the head of our bed.

Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6:00am, we hear BEEP BEEP BEEP and then WHAM, it smacks into the building.

Jacka$$es.

Okay, now that is fully ridiculous, and likely quite dangerous. I'd definitely be calling the council over that one.

I couldn't tolerate that! Get some ear plugs and hang an old tire over the spot on the building where they hit it.

Or you could try my old ploy I used back home. Whenever I had excess trash or bulky items I'd leave a sixpack of beer hidden behind the cans. It worked a charm.

So leave the crew a nice note asking "please don't hit my building again" along with a couple bottles of nice ale. (Put it where only the binmen can find it... not the local hoodies!).

Yeah where I live in Leeds for the first three months when we moved here, the bin men just didn't come at all! The trash just kept piling up and it was soo disgusting.
