ExPat in Manchester....1 month in.....
« on: April 04, 2011, 12:39:53 PM »
Hello, I'm a US Ex-Pat, moved to Manchester from Florida (Why does everyone give me that funny look when I say that???) on March 2nd of this year, so far, I love it.

My wife is a British Citizen (American parents, but born, grew up and went to school in the UK), who moved to the states about 15 years ago. We met about 10 years ago, got married had 3 great kids and I promised, at some point, that we'd move back to the UK. She called my bluff and here we are.

The ride from the airport was interesting (Trying to fight the urge to go to the right lane), having to really listen to what people are saying and getting over the fact that things like utilities are so much cheaper here.

Within a month, we have the kids registerd with the school (Waiting for an assignment...soon they say), I have a job and we are getting settled in. looking forward to the adventure. Now to find a source for Maxwell House auto-drip coffee and pancacke syrup....

I seem to remember seeing Maxwell House at Tesco.

Tesco, asda and even the corner shop by the house all seem to have instant Maxwell House. Not an instant fan, but may try a jar if I can't track it down for the coffee maker. Some company on Amazon.co.uk has the 44 oz containers for £12....with £22 shipping ugh

Pancake syrup is available in a really large jug from Costco (but it does not go bad) so that always works for us.

Hi and welcome! I live outside Manchester, from California. Everyone gives me "the look"/thinks I'm insane for moving here. They always say that they wouldn't have left the good weather, etc, etc. I like it here, though! ;D

I've lost track of the number of times that I've gotten "The Look"(tm) after people here find out that I moved to Manchester from Florida. :)

Could it be because Florida is, well, sunny and England is, well, not? I am moving to Manchester in December from Tucson, AZ and I'm sure I'll get the same sorts of looks as well. I hate the sun and myself I love the rain. And my skin loves it too!
