Letting company, or just use Rightmove?
« on: April 03, 2011, 04:03:47 AM »
I am looking for a place in City Centre Nottingham and I am having trouble finding what I am looking for. Does it makes sense to stay at a temporary place and use an agent until I find what I am looking for? Or should I do it on my own and use sites like rightmove?

Any other sites I could look at to find something?

Sites like rightmove, primelocation and a findaproperty are comprised of listiings from estate agents so you are eventually going to have to contact individual estate agents to be able to view properties.  Also, estate agent listings are probably more up to date.

I am also currently looking for rentals in Leicester and we use Rightmove to browse up to date listings. The site is used by most letting agencies as gretel44 mentioned. It's also worth going into individual agencies and giving them your info so they can contact you when something comes up that is up to your specifications. Hope that helps :)

In my experience estate agents will promise to let you know when they find something for you but they never do, and in competitive areas by the time a property makes it on to Rightmove it is already gone. Best to check the agencies' own websites if they have one.

We just moved here and let a flat near Canary Wharf. In our search, we found that 99% of the properties we saw on Rightmove were already let. My best advice is to contact the letting agents (all that you can find) in the area you'd like to live. Look at their websites and talk to them. We would still be living in a hotel if we hadn't.

Not exactly sure what you're looking for, but I used this site  to find the place that I'm living in now.

The letting agent we used also has a few things listed on their website at the moment, but I'm not sure when you're planning on moving.

I would definitely suggest staying somewhere short-term whilst you look around, as you don't want to sign a contract for accommodation sight unseen.

The letting agent was useful for setting up appointments for viewing properties, instead of having to do all of the legwork ourselves. However, you're limited to the properties that are listed with that particular property agency. They won't deal with properties listed with other agencies.

In our case, we visited the agency that had the most listings in our desired neighborhood and went from there.

90% of the time, the listings that were on rightmove.com had long since been taken.
