Shipping Companies
« on: August 04, 2010, 11:45:12 AM »
Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone here had used Anglo Pacific for a moving company and if so, hwo they were.  I also have a quote from Britannia in Oxford, which is slightly higher.

Thanks!

We just used them for our move back to Canada.

Of the 4 we interviewed and got estimates from, they were the best (not cheapest but best attention to detail) but as far as our moves go (this was our 5th major cross border move), it was definitely not the best.

The consultant was very hands off and details were missed.  I would have liked a lot more hand holding as we have had in the past because it's so stressful that you tend to miss a lot of details and you rely heavily on that hand holding to keep you on track with the paperwork.

They insisted on packing for us and the results of that remain to be seen because our container arrives tomorrow.  But thus far, everything has gone quite well.

The packers will not bring any tools with them so if there is a possibility to take anything apart (such as removing table legs etc..) make sure you do it ahead of time and package and tape the screws to the item of furniture.  They had no sense of packing to save space which I found very frustrating (we packed everything ourselves in previous moves) and I'm sure we will be hunting for the screws during the unpacking process.

No matter what, make sure you have your own detailed inventory with values for the insurance and customs later.

Thanks for that.  Out of curiosity, did you interview Britannia?  That's another one I'm considering.

we didn't interview Brittania, just Robinsons, Pickfords and one other that was dismissed right away so I don't remember what the name was.

We talked to Brittania and Robinsons and went with Robinsons. We were very happy with them.

How did the move go?  Were your items ok when they arrived in the US?

Mostly all good.  One table was damaged due to bad packing but that was it.  I really didn't like that they packed for us and we waived a lot of the unpacking because I just could not deal with the disaster that would have ensued.

Thanks for the input MrsPink.  I'll bear that in mind when they come by for a quote.  I, too, am worried about the packing of some of my items.  We'll see what happens!
 :)

Btw, did you get insurance &, if so, who would you suggest?  Thanks!

yes, we bought the insurance as I have done every time we've moved.  Thankfully, we've never used it.

You bought insurance through Anglo Pacific or another company?

Also, yo said you rejected Pickford's, any reason other than cost?  They are one of our quotes.

Thanks for your help MrsPink!   :)

We bought insurance from Anglo Pacific.  It's just easier that way.  We went with Anglo Pacific based on how we felt about the company when the consultant came to do the estimate.  They were the most thorough and professional.
