How to get something notarized?
« on: June 05, 2011, 09:10:13 PM »
Hey all,

So sorry if this is in the wrong place. I have no idea where to ask this.

Is there a certain procedure to get something notarized here? I've googled but I'm getting crazy prices like £80 for 20 mins of a solicitors time. Has anyone ever notarized any paper work in west yorkshire cheaply?

Thank you!

It also depends on what you need it for.  Keep in mind that in the UK most things just require a solicitor to certify them, which is often sufficient.  For instance, this is what we did when my husband couldn't come to DDs passport app interview.  They needed a notarized form saying it was okay for her to have a passport at the embassy, and it was sufficient to have our solicitor give it his certifying stamp.

If it's a US form that specifically needs notarization, the links you've been given should be helpful, but yes, it is very expensive to find people who will notarize in the UK.

I needed to have a form for a US bank notarized, and they accepted certification from a UK solicitor.

Can you doublecheck whether that would be acceptable?

ETA: The solicitor actually checked over the form to make sure I filled it out correctly and gave me a bit of advice, service that you would not get from a notary, which explains the extra expense.

Well I need my husband's passport page notarized in order for uscis to send us what they have on file about him due to his refused entry we need to get that paperwork. So I have no idea what type of notarization I need. They sent me a very vague letter (as is usually the case when I deal with US immigration).
