NYC to Glasgow at the end of July
« on: June 23, 2011, 04:09:04 PM »
HELLO!!!

Me & my girlfriend will be moving from New York City (by way of Baltimore, MD) to Glasgow, Scotland for 4 months starting July 25.  We are both in our late 20s.  She works for Morgan Stanley, and will be working in their Glasgow office. She worked for 2 weeks in this office some months back, and they were so taken with what she could accomplish, that they wanted her there on a more regular basis.

I've never been to Scotland despite having Scottish roots, and we are very excited about the move.  Fortunately, Morgan Stanley will be putting us up in corporate housing for our time there, so I know we will be needing some advice on Glasgow neighborhoods, as we have a choice of about 4 places, all in different areas.  So I know I will need some guidance on that.

I just wanted to introduce myself to the forum and am incredibly excited about the journey ahead.

Hello and welcome!!

I've just moved from the burbs of Glasgow out to the boonies, but I love Glasgow and I'm sure you will too!  :)

I could definitely let you know what neighbourhoods are better than others, though if it's corporate housing, I'm sure they'll all be good!

Be careful about what visa you will be here on.  You're not allowed to work on a visitor visa, even remotely for a US company, so just make sure you've got the right sort of visa before you come over.  I won't pretend to be an expert in that department, but if you look at the Visas & Citizenship board on this forum, there are some very helpful folks there.  :)
