Hello

I relocated from Texas to Leeds for work.  Is there an expat group in the area?

Hello and welcome!  There are a few Leeds ladies around most who moved to the UK for spouses!  :)

Yep there's a fair few of us around!  I'm not aware of a formal organised expat group, but that's not to say there isn't one.  The folks I know are more spur-of-the-moment, informal let's get together for coffee & such.

Welcome to Leeds!  :)

Why not tell us a little more about yourself?  What kind of work are you doing?  Are you on a long-term work assignment here?  Whereabouts in Texas are you from?

I assume that you're a sports fan - going by your screen name, C10golfer - and you posted about ESPN sports on that Nebraska to Peterborough thread.  Also I saw another new-ish forum member, MikeVikeScouseLover, on that thread about sports - seems he & his wife are soon moving to Leeds as well.

I'm afraid I'm not a sports fan at all, and I played golf myself once - which was enough to last me for my entire life - lol!  :P

But, I like Tex-Mex food!  :)

Anyway, there's a number of US gals living here in Leeds, like persephone said, married to British guys.

I am single, transfered to Leeds for work on a 3 year assignment.  Although I most recently lived in Houston grew up in Oklahoma.  Still am a big fan of my univertity football team OU Sooners.  Prior to relocating I played golf, definitely not a scratch golfer but a really good sense of humor about my game.

Am way past the club scene but do enjoy a nice dinner out and glass of wine, conversation and laughs, spa day, movie or play.  I travel for business but that is just alot if plane, train and taxi rides to and from meetings.  Would enjoy making friends who also would like to take the opportunity to explore well travelled and less popular places in Europe while I am here.

And employed. I think you'll do alright....

Thanks for that!  I hope there's someone around who is in a position to take you up on the traveling bit/interests.  Have you tried just general meet-up groups for Leeds (not necessarily only American expat-specific ones)?  Because on Meetup.com, there looks to be groups for things like tennis, outdoor climbing, walking, things like Spanish or French or German language speaking, general social groups, movie fans, book group, etc.

I'm not going to be around much until mid-July owing to an upcoming walking holiday with my husband, followed by our annual holiday with the in-laws following close on the heels of the first one.

But if I'm out for a coffee or something after that, I'm happy to give you a shout then to see if you'd like to join.

I'm 'old married' & have lived here 7 years - it's home now.  I'm originally from Kansas though & so familiar with both Oklahoma & Texas.   :)
