We're selling our 1998 BMW 523i SE.  It's a 4 door saloon, silver, 2.5L petrol, manual, 157,000 miles, MOT January 2012, tax August 2011, full service history, cruise control, trip computer, ABS, traction control, 6-disc CD changer, air conditioning, 2 remote keys, new Depo Angel Eye headlights with Xenon bulb upgrade, new tyres 11/2010.

The one thing that I've been told is the insurance can be a lot higher than lets say a VW?

This is the only car I've owned in the UK, so I can't compare the insurance to another car.  My guess is with a car this old the difference is minimal.  If you compared a 2011 BMW 5 series with a 2011 VW Phaeton the difference might be more pronounced, but I don't know for sure.
