Hi Everyone! Moving from NY to Wales
« on: July 08, 2011, 07:01:03 PM »
Hi everyone  :) I'm not really good at introductions but I'll give it my best shot!
I just registered for the site today but have been reading posts and everything for a little bit, I stumbled upon this website by a customer at work and love all the information the site has to provide.
But anywho, my name is Paige, I'm 25, and by the end of the year I hope to be moving to Wales to join my husband. We met about 4 years ago while I was in college and he was over for a study exchange program. As soon as I met him I felt like I knew him for years, so instantly thought it wasn't going to be some random encounter. Since then I've been over to the UK about eight times and he's been over here in the states about the same amount of times. He proposed last year August to my delight and we decided to get married in the states (but plan to have a wedding in Wales as well next February) for financial reasons this past May. Any help on the visa application process and advice for me would be amazing. I'm nervous but excited to start a new life in the UK. It's scary leaving a secure job and everything you know! But I'm sure worth it. :)

Welcome!
I am from Manhattan.
I was just in wales last weekend, for a wedding. The wedding was horrid, but Wales was lovely!
What part of NY are you from?
The visa is expensive, and hard, but it can be done... Apply for expedited service BEFORE you send in your paperwork!!!!! It costs more, but not much more.
We got our answer really fast. Even still, the waiting is a killer... So, anything to make it shorter is worth it!
People are really helpful on here.
In the Visa section you can ask questions about each step of the process, and the paperwork.
The main thing is to NOT leave ANYTHING out, and send in ALL original documents.
Good luck!!!!!!

Married 04/13/11, in NYC.
Applied for Spouse Visa the following week, with express service, and I was approved 4 days later!
Arrived in the UK 05/20/11.
I took the stupid LIUK Test Oct. 2012.
We were granted ILR In Person in Croydon on 04/23/13.
Got BRP 2 days later, in mail box - it just appeared.
