Need Xbox game recommendations
« on: September 22, 2011, 07:38:55 PM »
I love games and I often spend every free moment I have to playing one.

But I'm terrible at reading the game sites for reviews and stuff. They always seem good and I end up disliking the game or the review can be bad but I still play the game like 5 times in a row.

So the type of games which I like are those like Fallout, Fable, Dragon Age, Elder Scrolls (I'm very excited about the new one this winter). I like the questing and story progression and free style. I don't like shoot em up games and merely tolerate fighting sequences as part of the above games. I find it boring. I've just played Dragon Age 2 and the story was a bit crap and it wasn't as good as Origins but I've started my 4th game, so it can't be all that bad.

Any recommendations? We have both Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 but I prefer the Xbox, I find it a nicer platform.

check out these guys. They have a youtube channel with so many reviews. The reviews actually use footage from the release as well. They have a facebook group too (if your on) and a lot of UK gamers do blogs and suggestions as well.

Another hilarious reviewer is Zero Punctuation.

I love the DragonAge games as well. Have you tried all of the other Bioware titles?  They are all tons of fun. I also have a good time with Fable 2 and 3, though those games do drive some people crazy.
Another one (that I am currently replaying because it is amazing) is Bioshock. It won game of the year, and is just tons of fun.

DB suggests you buy "Deus Ex: A Human Revolution"  His comments on it  "It has shooting, but it's an incredible story, and is more about the story and plot development, but it's set in the future. But I don't know if she'll like it actually because of the shooting."

Since you like Fable, he says you might want to check out Batman Arkham Asylum. "It's very different, but the mechanics and game play are kinda fun in the same way"

"But Skyrim is all you need."

Not sure if that helps at all....

We have the Batman game. I've watched Jon play it but it wasn't for me. I'll give the other games a try, though.

I haven't tried the other Bioware games. I'd like to try Mass Effect but only because it looks like it'd be just like Dragon Age, only set in the future.

Thanks again. Time to go shopping.

Yep. Mass Effect is awesome, and the Star War's games (KOTOR) are fantastic. They also have an oldie but goodie called "Jade Empire" that is a lot of fun.
I get the newest Bioware and/or Bethesda game every year for my birthday. :)

We have Read Dead Redemption. I watched Jon play it and he HATED it. The ending was super awful. But I do want to try LA Noire. Thanks!

Dh had LA NOIRE but he played his on his PS3 though he Really enjoyed it he finished that rather quickly he liked it that much. ;)  :)  Dh is a huge gamer he likes car & bike racing games, Tiger Woods Golf, games like Bejeweled that make you think. I'm not much of a gamer myself I have Wii but couldn't tell you the last time I used it though.

You might like the Final Fantasy games ( I love them) I agree, Mass Effect and Dragon Age were brilliant. I've been wanting to try Bioshock, but trying to find the time for gaming is a nightmare.
We stole countries with the cunning use of flags. Just sail around the world and stick a flag in. "I claim India for Britain!" They're going "You can't claim us, we live here! Five hundred million of us!" "Do you have a flag …? "What? We don't need a flag, this is our home, you bastards" "No flag, No Country, You can't have one! Those are the rules... that I just made up!...and I'm backing it up with this gun, that was lent to me from the National Rifle Association."

Two of my top faves (though I play PS3) are Bioshock 1 and 2. Both are awesome. Great if you like fantasy / sci fi kind of stuff. (If you like the Fallout games, you would probably like the Bioshock games.)

Currently I'm playing Tomb Raider Legend (picked up three games on one disc for a cheap price - I love the Tomb Raider games for all the puzzles and things like that), Mafia 2 (you might like that one), and Undead Nightmare (I LOVED Red Dead, though, I got very attached to the characters in that one - it's one of my all-time faves along with the Bioshock games. Undead Nightmare is very similar just with zombies, which is fun.) I thought LA Noire was great at first, but then I got pretty bored with it. I did eventually finish it, but didn't feel much about it at the end. I also liked Batman Arkham Asylum, once I got into it, which took a little perseverance. It really is a good game once you get the hang of it - I really liked the stealth part of the game, trying to figure out how to take down multiple enemies on the sly. Pretty cool. Didn't like Assassin's Creed, though, got really frustrated with that one for some reason.

Also, if you like racing games at all, I really like Wipeout HD. Super fun to play on 2 player mode (and it's amazing if you have a 3D TV and glasses, but we play it both ways depending on our mood.) It's not a "geek out and play all night" kind of game, but it's great if you have people over and want to take turns racing or just want to play something for a half hour or whatever.
