Pay for visa with American credit card?

I am filling out the paper application for a tier 4 visa and I would like to pay with my American visa card. There is a blank space for "valid from" and US cards don't normally have this. When using my credit card online I have encountered issues with this before but i'm assuming people have used an american card for the visa before. Has anyone done this before?

It cant be mandatory - even when I use UK cards it is mandatory.

I used an American credit card. However, mine did have a valid from and valid to date.

For the payment details it says:

A10 The name as displayed on the credit/debit card

A12-A14 Enter the details where available on the card

A15 The Card Verification Value (CVV) is a three-digit security code, found on the back of the card on the signature strip - it consists of the last 3 digits. For Amex the security code consists of 4-digits and is found on the front of the card.
If you do not provide the CVV number, we cannot take your payment and your application will be rejected as invalid.

I've highlighted that part in blue - presumably you only enter the details that are actually on the card.
