"Police in Northern Ireland have apologised to a Londonderry couple whose wedding was mistakenly stopped on suspicion it was a "sham marriage".

Neil McIlwee and his pregnant fiancee, Yanan Sun, were about to get married at the Guildhall on Tuesday when police entered the building and arrested them.

PSNI chief inspector Jon Burrows has admitted his officers got it wrong but said they were acting in good faith.

Mr McIlwee, who is from Castlederg, rejected the apology.

He said "sorry" would not make up for the distress caused."

:-X Eeek. Talk about needing to fully research a situation before going into it.  :-[

That's terrible! Sometimes "I'm sorry" truly isn't enough! This poor couple basically had the best day of their lives ruined by a crummy police department. :p Sorry if my opinion offends some of you, but if that would have been me I would have been pissed as well! Glad they got married in the end though :)
