Salutations, UK Yankee forum!
« on: June 20, 2011, 11:09:22 AM »
Hi, all. I'm so glad to have found this forum; it is exactly the font of information I've been seeking!

I've recently arrived in beautiful South Wales from the Detroit, MI area. I've come all this way with my two cats, to be with my best friend, and soon-to-be husband. It took two years, to tie up all my loose ends and get with the program! Getting my bills squared up, getting the house sold, getting my pets here, getting the things I couldn't fit into suitcases into storage, selling my car, getting all of that monotonous and intrusive paperwork filled out, the list goes on!!! Our wedding is in mid-July, thank goodness; it's been a long time coming. Getting here (and waiting to get here) has been the most heart-rending and stressful experience I've ever been through!

Now that I am here with him and his wonderful family, a great weight has been lifted from my soul. However, I am missing my friends, and the simple things I took for granted back home. Even so, I wouldn't trade being here for ANYTHING. This country is gorgeous, the people are colourful and friendly, the food is lovely, and everything is finally falling into place. I believe I was always meant to be here, in this pretty little seaside town; it is where everything that is the most important to me lives, and therefore, I belong here.

Anyhow, greetings to all. I hope everyone else is also having the times of their lives, here in the UK...and I hope you all have finally found what you've been looking for.

Sincerely,

Ms. Jynxie

WOW, from Detroit to South Wales? Mighty big culture shock I imagine. I wish you all the best in your new life in Wales. I am damn jealous.

Welcome! Keep on with the positive attitude! :D
We stole countries with the cunning use of flags. Just sail around the world and stick a flag in. "I claim India for Britain!" They're going "You can't claim us, we live here! Five hundred million of us!" "Do you have a flag …? "What? We don't need a flag, this is our home, you bastards" "No flag, No Country, You can't have one! Those are the rules... that I just made up!...and I'm backing it up with this gun, that was lent to me from the National Rifle Association."

You sold a house in Detroit in the middle of all this? Wow. I thought selling a house in Providence in 2008 was lucky.

Welcome!

Welcome!  Your photo looks amazingly like my cousin's wife - you aren't related to Alice Forcini Rheaume by any chance?

Croeso! There's a handful of us here in South Wales.  I know lots from the Southeast think it's dropped off the map, but I absolutely love it here to and couldn't see myself anywhere else.  There are so many lovely things to do here.  Hope you enjoy it.

Where are you exactly?  I'm in a small village outside Caerphilly.

@ Chilly Willy: Is it just me, or all the kitchen chairs rather tiny, here? LOL!

@ reweigh: Thank you!

@ lawyerwoman: I'm much less culture shocked than I expected to be!

@ abbygirl: Thanks for the welcome!

@ jane007: Thanks, again!

@ Smashley: Anthony Robbins envies my positive attitude!

@ snowlass: Hey hey!

@ Stoatula: I ended up selling the house back to the association, because I didn't have time to put it on the market. They're gonna have a helluva time getting rid of that place, because the next-door neighbours are HORRENDOUS. You know that show about the Whites, down in West Virginia? I think those folks must be related to them. I was having daydreams about burning their house down, because the association and the police wouldn't lift a finger against them.

@ LaraMascara: Our wedding was just last weekend. What a whirlwind! We made quite a stir here in town, because we wore Victorian costume. All the ladies were shocked that I wasn't wearing white!

@ SlicesMissus: Nope, I'm not related to any Forcinis (though I wish I were Italian)!

@ Cadenza: Diolch! I'm in Burry Port, right in between Pembrey and Pwll. I can't imagine myself anywhere else, either! This has got to be the most beautiful place in the world!!!!

Wherever you go, there you are!
