Moving from Florida to Belfast...
« on: July 21, 2011, 11:40:15 PM »
Hi everyone! I'm in the process of moving from Florida to Belfast. My fiance and I have been in a very long distance relationship for over a year now and I'm making the permanent move overseas in the new year. I stumbled onto this site in my quest to better understand the whole process. I'm looking forward to conversing with you all. Cheers!

Hi there!  I'm a fellow Southerner here in Belfast as well!  I'm originally from Montgomery, AL and have been here for a little more than 2 years.  If you dont' like the heat in Florida, all I have to say is that you'll LOVE LOVE LOVE the weather here because the last time it was 68F was about two weeks ago, since then it's been nice and cool.
I actually work with two other Americans in a little cafe on the Ormeau road, one of whom is married to an American, so we have our own little expat community.  My friend Diana and I are always up for meeting people from the US, especially to chat about other things than the troubles ;-)

Welcome. My wife (from Philly) and I got married on Amelia Island near Jacksonville. We really liked the area.

As you said in my thread, lots in common. :p Do you have a target date in mind for making the big move? I know specific dates can be a bit nebulous at first as you learn more about the whole process. Are you planning to go via the fiancee or spouse route?

Welcome to UK Yankee.  :)  Lots of good advice and info here.  I'm making the trip across the pond at the end of the year (hopefully!). Good luck with everything!
