Too late to apply for September? Any January openings?
« on: August 25, 2011, 03:30:18 PM »
Hi ! I left the UK a year ago and alas am trying to figure out how to get back. I'm visiting London right now. I'm thinking about applying for a spot at a London university for this September (I prefer January but I don't know if many programs start in the middle of the year). I don't need loans and can self-fund; my motives are  simply that I can't figure out another way to move here. Is it too late to apply for September and get the student visa? I know City U and London Met have library courses starting soon. I'd also be interested in studying lit- but the point is to move here, not so much get a degree. Thanks!

You'd need to contact the individual universities if they'd allow you to start a course in January as opposed to September. Same thing with applying now for a course that starts in a month or so.

That said, moving and staying in the UK via student visa is difficult. The PSW route is pretty much closed, and it wasn't permanent anway. Also many of the work visa routes are also closing. Of course, if you have $$$$ to invest you may be in luck! ;)

You could come in for a year, but it is getting more and more difficult to find a route to stay. :(

January 2012 - FLR(M)
June 2014 - ILR (finally!)

ditto on what CaliGirl said about a Tier 4 being a difficult route to fully move to the UK..

You can check the UKAS 2011 Clearing Lists, and go through the individual universities to find out what's available and get in touch with them to see if you're eligible. I'm not entirely sure what's involved in the application process, though...

You would have to go back to the US in order to gather the necessary information and apply for the visa.  You could then expedite the visa for a fee in order to ensure that you arrive in time for your course start date.

It took me nearly two months to get everything I needed from my university in order to apply for the visa.  So even if you get the visa process expedited, the university itself might take time getting approvals processed and the CAS sent to you.

Yes, they're correct. You need to contact different universities. Go to the UKAS 2011 Clearing Lists, and check individual universities to know what's available and get in touch with them to see if you're eligible.
Hello, everyone! I look forward for this wonderful day today!
