Overseas Voting

[Not sure where this topic should go. Move if appropriate]

Just noticed this: http://travel.state.gov/travel/living/overseas_voting/overseas_voting_4754.html

Has anyone done this yet -- with major election coming up before too long. Wondering how voting in local/state elections might have some impact on state income tax?

Just went to the fvap.gov site and clicked on the registration (just to see what the deal was) and Firefox claimed it was an "untrustworthy" site  ???

More on the Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment Act here:

https://www.overseasvotefoundation.org/node/282

The MOVE Act says you have to register for every election cycle.  Based on this link, an election cycle is defined as the two year period before a general federal election.  They use 2010 as an example, and say the election cycle for the 2010 elections consisted of 2009 and 2010.  Assuming that's right, the 2012 election cycle would consist of 2011 and 2012, so if you register this year or next year (with enough time to allow them to get you a ballot), you should be ok.

Don't know.  Happily, I'm registered in Texas, which doesn't have a state tax.

Not sure about the state tax impact as I'm registered at my parents' address in FL so  no state tax either
