£5 to make someone smile
« on: August 10, 2011, 05:40:31 PM »
Okay, I have been feeling very depressed with the news lately. I want to read something smiley and nice. I have decided to start a topic that hopefully will give a chance for people to be creative and positive.

This is how it goes-- you are given £5 and the instruction that you need to use it to make someone (or more than one person) smile.

What would you do with it? (I will save my answer for later)

Two things came to mind...considering it's just £5...  (if it were a bigger sum, I'd have bigger ideas)

Take treats in to my co-workers.

Give it to the Big Issue seller.
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in...

I'd buy my partner's mum flowers. She's been having some health issues this past week and I know it would cheer her up.  :D

Let's see 5 pounds... I would probably send someone a card just to say HI.

Give it to the Big Issue seller.

I think I'd do this, too. I walk past quite a few every day in London, but it'd have to go to the incredibly friendly one who is always outside Somerset House cheerfully wishing everyone a good morning. I think it says a lot that he can always be in such a good mood and put a smile on people's faces in central London.
I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, 'If this isn't nice, I don't know what is.' Kurt Vonnegut

Thanks for sharing your great ideas. I kept it low because it is easier sometimes to think of things with larger amounts-- but I wanted to see the creativity with budget restraints :)

I have to admit this is my favourite so far:

Give it to the Big Issue seller.
DH is very good at always buying a big issue- and I love the whole big issue concept!
