Stuff I Edited
« on: July 22, 2011, 09:47:34 PM »
Not to blow my own horn, but I cut this video, and I'm really proud of the way it turned out.  (Tried to link this with the player in it, but apparently I'm too stupid to work that out.)

Nicely done. Surprised to see English words on the blackboard in the schoolroom scene.

Would it be rubbing it in to point out you've typo'd "Pakistan" in the title? :)

Surprised me, too.  (I wasn't the cameraman.)

No, because the charity's web people did that.  I'll make sure they know to fix it, though, so thanks for mentioning it.  :)

Nice edit.  Is this your own footage or is it what they sent you to be edited?  Do you shoot as well as edit?  What program do you use?  FCP?  If so, what do you think of FCPX?  I really wish I could get into editing here, but only if I could do it from home. I miss the creativity of editing and also the kudos when it was a job well done. I just do simple holiday or family videos now but really crave some good professional stuff to work with.  sigh

ETA:  After re-reading your post, I see that you were not the shooter.

The producer and a shooter went to Pakistan and brought everything back to the Save the Children office in London, and that's where I worked on it, using Avid Media Composer.  I've taken an FCP class, and cut on FCP once or twice, but never felt like I was fast enough to get the kind of quick turnaround stuff I'm good at with MC.  Based on the reaction to FCPX, I'm pretty glad I'm an Avid editor.

I tried to find some stuff to do from home (I've got MC on a laptop), but the internet speeds out in the sticks made that problematic, plus there are so many people who have iMovie and are willing to cut stuff for £25 that it made it tough to justify financially.  Sorry I don't have any better advice.  :)

Very nifty!

Thanks!
