Lymm, Cheshire
« on: September 10, 2011, 03:17:50 AM »
hey all... so one of the jobs i am a finalist for is located in Lymm. I was wondering does anyone live there? If so what can you tell me about the area. I am researching the area now but of all the possible cities I can move to this is the one i know least about.

also i noticed the housing is a litte more than what I had in mind (well compared to glasglow i know its a bit more).. so is this a more expensive area in general? What would be an area close to lymm for a commute? about 30 mins

thanks

I am researching the area now but of all the possible cities I can move to this is the one i know least about.

Well, Lymm isn't a city, it's a large village (population 11,000) on the outskirts of the town of Warrington (pop. 80,000) and the city of Manchester (pop. 500,000).

From what I can tell from Wikipedia, it looks like one of those posh, classy villages in Cheshire (i.e. where celebrities live) and in terms of demographics, it looks like it's 98.2% white with 83% of the population being homeowners and 65% employed.

According to a couple of articles I just found online, Lymm is one of the most expensive places to live outside the south of England.

I believe that Lymm is a commuter village itself, so people will generally live there and commute into towns and cities like Manchester, Warrington, Chester or Liverpool.

In terms of distances from Lymm (according to Google maps): Warrington is about 15 minutes away, Manchester city centre is about 30 minutes, Chester about 35 minutes and Liverpool about 45 minutes.

ks summed it up pretty well. Lymm is definitely not a city, I have been there a couple of times because we had some business dealings with a shop there. There willl be lots of less expensive places to live to commute to Lymm.

OMG thank you so much. your answer clearned up another question I had. While I was researching the company and researching lymm I kept thinking to myself why would this company be located here.. that doesnt seem right at all because Lymm didn't seem like it would be the place for a big business. But that answer about it being a commuter village for Manchester cleared up somethings for me.  I don't want to say the company because i am scared of jinxing myself but i just knew Lymm couldn't be the right location for it. But Manchester is.

I will continue to look in the other areas about places to stay then.

There are lots of businesses listed in Lymm. The Lymm postal area covers a lot of outer Warrington.

3 pages of 'em here...

More than 500 here

Many smaller business may use a director or owner's address for mail purposes which will often be in a posh village but have business premises elsewhere.

i am not saying Lymm wouldn't have businesses, I couldn't under why this particular business would be in Lymm bc it's clients are elite athletes. So I didn't understand why they would set up in Lymm verses another city with a huge population of elite athletes and be in a city were they would have better access to everything that comes with having a client as that.

But i can see now by your explaination how they may have a Lymm address.

Companies like that which provide specialised services can be based anywhere and sometimes a leafy suburb might be an advantage but like I said it could just be a directors home address.

Lymm is one of those leafy Cheshire villages where footballers live, and its 10 miles or so from places like Mobberley, Bowden, Altrincham, Wilmslow, Knutsford etc. Places where atheletes live.
