Hi all! I am so glad I have found y'all, it would have made the last few months so much easier!

I met my husband (UKC) while on vacation in Honduras. He was working in Bermuda at the time, so after a year and a half of long-distance dating, I moved to Bermuda to be with him. We got married, had our little girl, and have since left Bermuda. We travelled a little and then came back to Texas for the summer ( he was just on a tourist visa here in TX.) We made the decision for me to pursue a settlement visa for the UK, which was just granted last week, so I am packing like a crazy person so our little girl and I can get on a flight asap and all be back together.

For a handful of reasons, I am not thrilled about living in Derby, but I am not going to get in to all that. I have decided to just make the best of it, and I have tons of questions, so I am glad to have found a new group to talk to. Thanks for reading!

Michelle

Hi Michelle and welcome! My daughter and I will be moving to that area next summer to live with my bf (hubby at that point), he's from Arnold ;) We will most likely be living in Nottingham/Mansfield or Derby area. I think the Derby countryside is spectacular! Go check out some of the estate homes (Chatsworth House is one  fantastic place) and I guarantee you will change your mind. Hope to see you around the boards! ;)

Welcome to the forums, Texasgirl. The most objectionable thing about Derby is the ridiculous pronunciation.

Or the absurd spelling, if you'd rather look at it that way :)

Thanks!
I agree, the countryside is gorgeous, and after 5 years with DH, I can get over the "Derby is pronounced Darby" argument.

It's building a house in my mother-in-law's back garden that I object to!!

But, we'll be together under our own roof and that's a good thing!

I was in Derby for the past 4 years... until April this year and I can honestly say I miss our little home there, we were in Allestree (which is quite nice as well as Quarndon & Darley Abbey  :) and Chester Green & Oakwood aren't so bad either...just stay away from Chaddesden, Allenton, Alveston, Normanton, Sinfin, Breadsall Hilltop(just a fancy way of saying Chadd) and you should be just fine!  :P).

We moved back to the states earlier this year, but I still miss Derby  :\\\'(

Haha it's a common mistake ;)

Hi, Texasgirl, and welcome!

Speaking about the way to say "Derby", I was calling my county of Berkshire as "berk"shire instead of "bark"sher.  lol    Then there's the town of Worcestershire...   my hubby laughs every time I say it.

Well then you're doin' alright methinks, could be worse, you could be in Allenton!...we were up by Park Farm Centre off Ferrers Way. I loved Allestree and was very sad to leave it. But, alas, back in California (where it's 78 & breezy outside atm) since April.
