Please Review: Microchip Verification Letter
« on: October 02, 2011, 01:34:36 AM »
When we started the PETS process back in January, I did not have have microchip certificate for one of our cats. For one cat, we had it, but not the other. I have since had the vet office write up basically a verification letter that states the following:

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing this letter to certify that according to our records, "Misha", a female, spayed, blue point colored Siamese cat, was microchipped at our facility on August 12, 2006. Her microchip ID # is XXXX... Our patient records keeping system has been updated since the original microchipping certificate was printed in 2006, and the current certificate no longer includes the date of administration. I have included the current certificate for "Misha" with this correspondence. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

It is then signed by the office manager of the clinic. It is written on company letterhead as well. In my opinion, I think it provides all the sufficient info to verify when they were chipped, but my opinion doesn't count. What do you all think? I hope it will past muster, as this is all I'm likely to get from them, and they are supposed to fly on the 13th!

That should be plenty. I didn't have documentation for my dog's microchip, so I wrote up an invoice for the correct date and had my vet sign it. As it turned out, the USDA vet never asked for it (though I don't know if DEFRA checked it when they got here).

At any rate, all they care about is that it happened prior to the rabies. A lot of animals from shelters come pre-chipped, so I would guess they get a fair amount of "please note that so-and-so already had a microchip, #XXXX, on the day that the rabies vaccine was given" notes.

We are entering through Manchester, so I called the agents that will be handling our cats when they arrive (PBS International). I scanned and sent them the docs I have and the rep sent them to DEFRA for review. They said it all looked ok, so the letter I mentioned above does seem to be acceptable. Yay!
